Equipped For The Day!

by Mobile Health Consult

stEvery new day seems to bring with it a fresh load of events that can make us become stressed. Ironically, even events that should normally be enjoyed have also become stress provoking.

As earlier stated, the first step to creating new beginnings is to get to know yourself as it is the key to breaking the hold that stress may tend to have on you. Having gained a knowledge of yourself as well as your capabilities, you get to know what you can handle, what to prepare for, what you should avoid and what to do when faced with stressful situations.

The next step is to arm yourself with tools to relieve stress in daily activities.

One of such tools is mindfulness meditation.

What does it mean to be mindful?

It simply means being aware of what is happening within and around you at the present moment.

To meditate means to consciously direct your attention at something in particular with the aim of gaining a better understanding of it.

Put together, Mindfulness meditation involves a conscious effort of being aware of the internal and external occurrences in the present moment. That is, being aware of what you feel RIGHT NOW, what you think RIGHT NOW as well as your bodily responses to external stimuli.  It is a non-judgmental practice whereby you live in the present moment, not dwelling on your pasts or future, just the present moment.

This practice involves focusing primarily on your breathing and practicing deep diaphragmatic breathing. This helps to direct awareness to the mind, enable you achieve a more coherent heart rate and become conscious of your current overall functioning.

Do you know when you are breathing in or when you are breathing out?

Most times, we are unaware of this, we just breathe because that’s what human’s do. This explains why it is a CONSCIOUS effort to become aware of “breathing in and knowing that I am breathing in” and “breathing out and knowing that I am breathing out”

By practicing mindfulness meditation daily,

You overcome stress and react more positively to situations

You become healthier physically and mentally

You become less impulsive

Your memory is improved

Your relationships get better and more fulfilling

You become more productive and eliminate procrastination

You become less judgmental

You become more confident

Peaceful-WomanOne of the best gifts you can give yourself is to become skilled at being mindful because you can take it with you everywhere you go.

Remember to live in the moment, it’s happening right NOW!

New Beginnings Starts With You

by Mobile Health Consult

starts with you

It’s interesting to know that you can actually run a self-analysis without having to be a professional Psychologist. Yes it’s possible.

So let’s talk about you… Give yourself a sincere answer to these questions.

How well do you know yourself?

How much can you really say about yourself?

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Do you know your limits?

Do you know when you need to stop and take a break?

How much pressure can you really handle?

How much warning signs are you ignoring?

It’s funny how we can easily say that people don’t know us when we actually don’t even know ourselves well enough. As a matter of fact, when you don’t know yourself, you’ll always want to live your life like someone else by striving to do what others are doing regardless of your own capabilities. This fruitless effort often results in stressful living. What you are unaware of is that such individuals that you are trying to emulate have possibly developed resilience over the years as a result of their experiences in life.

Keep in mind that we are all unique and therefore what applies to one may not necessarily go for the other. This is why it is expedient that we learn to study ourselves in order to gain an understanding of what we can handle and vice versa.

So also it is with how well we can handle events in our lives that have potential to cause stress. Remember that stress is our body’s reaction to events that are perceived as threatening.

The first step towards solving any problem is to identify it!

There are various common stress triggers encountered daily and being armed with a wealth of knowledge regarding your own bodily “perception” and “reaction” to these events will surely keep stress away. Ignorance should therefore no longer be an excuse for becoming weighed down with stress.

How do you perceive and react to the following common events of everyday living:

  • Relationship demands (commitment and expectations to family, marriage and other relationships)
  • Work demands (increased work load, long working hours, dead lines)
  • Major life changes (relocation, marriage, getting pregnant, loosing a loved one)
  • Environmental triggers (traffic, unstable cost of living, noise, pollution)

perceptionTake out time to become conscious of your physical as well as emotional responses to these common stressors. Become aware of events that cause your heart to pound, make you anxious as well as change your mood.

If you perceive these events as being capable of getting you overwhelmed and you ALLOW them, then they will. Adjust your perception because not all life’s events are aimed at defeating you!

New Beginnings…

by Mobile Health Consult

female hands with pen writing on notebook on grass outside

Enough of living life like an ambulance, always being on an emergency mode.

STOP! …

There must be an explanation for the nagging headaches, constant mood swings, disorganization, unexplainable forgetfulness, unproductiveness, nervousness, overwhelming feelings, sleeplessness, frequent illnesses… because they cannot all just be coincidences.

It has become quite worrisome that a lot of people are really unaware of the adverse side effects their lifestyle has on their well-being only to realize when it’s too late.

Stress is a thief, don’t let it steal away your happiness and fulfillment in life. It should rather be nipped in the bud! But first, let’s understand what stress really is. It is simply our body’s reaction to circumstances of daily life especially ones that are perceived as threatening.  When this happens, certain stress hormones such as Adrenaline and Cortisol are released into our blood stream aimed at preparing our body to either face or run away from the challenging circumstance. That’s why this response is called “the flight or fight” response.

For example,

If you were faced with a threatening situation such as:

being confronted by a large snake on your way home, you will typically get frightened and notice a speedy increase in your heart rate. You’ll also begin to sweat instantly and have various thoughts running through your mind.

At that time, Adrenaline surges through your body and you may find yourself running away from that situation or at least making an attempt to escape.

Also,

A less threatening situation like getting a new job can cause some level of stress as you prepare to face the new job and prepare to fit into the work demands of the new place.

This can also be experienced in other life’s event like getting married, having children, raising children and other day to day activities.

It is important to understand that stress hormones are not necessarily “bad hormones” in fact, they are necessary for our survival as humans but when our brain is constantly required to secrete more and more of these hormones, it hinders the performance of our immune system thereby causing us to be more susceptible to physical as well as psychological illnesses.

Remember that stress hormones are released when we perceive the circumstance as threatening. It therefore means that our “perception” of every single thing we go through is key in determining whether we become stressed or not. Also, our “reactions” to situations either cause us to accumulate stress or relieve it. Sadly, more people are accumulating than relieving.

The first step towards creating a new beginning is to take out some time to become aware of our stress triggers by studying our perception and reactions to events that we are faced with every day. Also, observe the impact of your perception and reaction to these events on your well-being.

A WAY OUT

by Mobile Health Consult

drug addict
It’s got no claws or suckers but if it gets a hold of you,

you’ll need an external intervention to escape its very firm grip.

Many have strayed along its path never to find their way back,

yet many still keep getting lost every single day…

One begins to wonder why people still willingly go down this road of steep decline despite its evidenced effects in the lives of its victims. Although so much has been done in an attempt to knock out this hideous monster which seems to be an engulfing flood intent on eroding away the values and ideals of organized society, yet the story gets more worrisome each day.
The average drug abuser can’t explain how he/she got so knee deep in the habit, but if you ask around about what they stand to gain, the overwhelming answer will be the altered state of perception they experience when under its influence which according to them is incomparable to any other feeling that could be humanly experienced. Some even claim to draw inspiration from the world beyond when in that state. Others say they are into it because it gives good appetite and helps them sleep well. Whatever the reason may be for indulging in it, one thing remains a common factor to all illicit drug users which is their inability to function effectively without them. This in turn leads to a heavy dependence on these hard drugs with its attendant debilitating side effects.

There is a refreshingly safe, healthy and highly effective way out

It is through Audio-visual entrainment therapy. This therapy is one sure way out of the dark maze of drug addiction. It serves as a fantastic alternative to enjoy all the “good feelings” sought after by illicit drug users. Audio-visual entrainment therapy is aimed at training an individual’s brainwaves into desired states. Its protocols range from Energizer, Calmness, Brain Booster, Sleep, Mood Booster and more. There is so much to benefit from Audio-visual entrainment therapy and it’s also the best thing that can happen to anyone ready for recovery.

Here are some benefits of Audio-visual entrainment therapyDAVID-Delight-Nederland-2

  • It induces calmness
  • Improves alertness/attention
  • Reduces hyperactivity
  • Improves assimilation
  • Relieves stress
  • Serves as an energy booster
  • Enhances concentration
  • Improves mood thereby eliminating depression
  • Improves sleep quality
  • Improves memory
  • Eliminates anxiety
  • Improves performance (sports, academics and work)
  • Clears mental fogginess and improves mental clarity

All these benefits come with the added advantage of it being non-invasive, painless and cost effective without any risk of health related complications.

Truly, Audio-visual entrainment therapy is a tool to promote well being and the addict’s answer to their search for a way out.

The Next Fix

by Mobile Health Consult

NF 1It all starts with an innocent introduction to something new, something different from the usual and a way of escape from reality. It feels really good at first then you begin to need more and more of it… until you eventually realize that you cannot live without it and you’ll do anything to get the next fix.

Life offers so many things that can bring pleasure to us, food, drinks, games, shopping, sex, money and others. However, when we begin to abuse them, we are simply setting ourselves up for grave danger. To abuse something literally means to have an “Abnormal usage” of it. This implies that the same things that can bring you so much pleasure can destroy you when misused or when used abnormally.

You may enjoy doing certain things a whole lot but when your “need” for it becomes abnormal and interferes with your normal functioning, relationships & overall wellbeing, then it becomes an addiction.

“Without it you are not okay”

“If only you get it now, you will be fine again”

“Just one more, then another and yet another…”

NF 2It becomes addictive when “you cannot help it”. It somewhat over powers your will/ability to stop it and makes it difficult for you to function normally without it.

The reason why addicts always want more or a higher quantity is because their bodies develop dependence on the substance of abuse and because they want to constantly live in the euphoria as they may be unable to face reality.

From a Neuropsychological perspective, substance abusers seek to constantly alter their brain waves to become calmer, relaxed, focused, energetic, gain a sense of importance etc. by introducing substances  that are detrimental to their brain functions and overall health.

Addiction creeps upon people slowly with enticing feelings of satisfaction but with wreckage on the long run. Search yourself, are you unknowingly addicted to something or becoming addicted to something? Find help at www.mobilehealthconsult.org

So Much Happiness!

by Mobile Health Consult

so much happiness 1

It’s time to take your life into your hands and make things happen for real!

Enough of going through the motions in life and waiting for external things to make you happy.

…Why are you still searching for things, people or life’s events to

bring you happiness when the resources to create

happiness are actually embedded on your inside?

Yes they are! and that makes you responsible for your own happiness! The moment you realize this priceless truth and let it get deep into your consciousness, then you’ll begin to enjoy a more rewarding and enjoyable quality of life because everything will literally change for the better! You’ll begin to appreciate life more, become more open, more able to accommodate others and love them more. You’ll also begin to treat yourself and others better.

You may have heard about certain hormones in your Biology class back in school, but do you know that there are some specific hormones known as “happiness hormones”? This is not referring to some pharmaceutically manufactured happiness pill, rather the happiness hormones are chemicals secreted by the brain, released into other parts of the body channeled towards specific functions and expressed as feelings that influence our overall wellbeing.

blue_happiness_by_daniellekiemelThe happiness hormones are Dopamine, Endorphins, Serotonin and Oxytocin. We discussed about Oxytocin hormone in the preceding article.

Dopamine: is also called the “pleasure hormone” or the “motivation hormone”. It is produced when we strive towards a goal and keeps us motivated. It also keeps us mentally alert. Individuals with low dopamine levels are found to be less motivated and will settle for less at every opportunity. On the brighter side, individuals with more dopamine levels are always motivated towards their goal and also strive for greater things, no surprise they eventually get the best out of life!

Take this moment to check your dopamine level by analyzing your level of motivation, do you constantly require a push to get you motivated in all aspects? If yes, then your dopamine level may be on a low level.

Here’s how to spike up your dopamine level and keep being motivated:

  • Always set daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals. You also have to ensure that they are attainable. Another tip is to break down the goals into small bits and remember to celebrate your accomplishments at the attainment of each goal however little. This will indeed spike up your dopamine levels.
  • Exercise with an aim
  • Reward yourself each time you accomplish a task and plan your next reward for the attainment of your next goal.
  • Eat foods rich in protein

Endorphins: are the body’s natural “pain killers” because they reduce our sensitivity to pain. They can best be described as stress and pain fighters! Asides reducing your sensitivity to pain, they also make you feel good by eliminating anxiety and depression.

Here’s how to spike up your Endorphin levels:

  • Participate in rigorous exercises
  • Add humor to your daily activities (stop being too serious ALL THE TIME!),
  • Eat dark chocolate
  • Eat spicy foods

Serotonin: is a sure “mood booster” also called the “feel good hormone”, when released, it makes you feel happy and more sociable. It regulates moods thereby preventing mood swings and irritability. It plays a key role in the prevention and treatment of depression as it promotes feelings of significance, importance and worthiness.

Here’s how to spike up your serotonin levels:

  • Dwell on positive memories and thoughts
  • Express gratitude
  • Get involved in light exercises
  • Eat carbohydrate rich foods
  • Get some sun light on your skin

People_Different_people_Family_Happiness_026542_Now you see that experiencing happiness is truly possible. Notice also that YOU are involved in all of these.

It’s your life, take it and make the very best of it!

Stop pursuing happiness and start creating it!
