Enjoying your own company

by Mobile Health Consult

“If you make friends with yourself, you’ll never be lonely” –Maxwell Maltz

happy-black-womanStrap your seat belt as we take a journey into ourselves but first, what really comes to mind when asked the common question; “who are you? ” or “tell me about yourself”

Can you tell who you really are?

Do you know yourself well enough?

Do you know for certain what you are capable of doing?

Do you know your strengths and weaknesses?

As relational beings, we are constantly relating with others in our lives. We have family, friends and others in our society constantly demanding for our attention.  The relationship with others in our lives is necessary but what is more important is our relationship with ourselves i.e our intrapersonal relationship. People often go to great lengths to gain skills that will enable them relate better with others in their lives with little emphasis being placed on how well they relate with their own selves.

Let’s make this a bit more practical, take it a challenge; choose a day or maybe one hour to be by yourself. No other person around, no calls, no chats just you…. Then see how well you thrive when you are not in the company of others.

Stop+Feeling+HelplessIf all you get is boredom, loneliness, hopelessness, helplessness, suicidal thoughts, feeling of worthlessness, fear and all such negative feelings, then something is not right with the quality of your intrapersonal relationship.  Some are fantastic when it comes to relating with others and may often avoid being alone for the shortest possible time, they rather thrive well in the company of others. Such people are quick to judge themselves as friendly… but the truth is that they may actually not be friends with their own selves and often have problems in their relationship with others as well. Some others find that they are unable to enjoy their own company and the company of others as well. The third set of people find that they may enjoy their own company and have issues relating with others outside themselves…

It is important to note that none of these three extremes is encouraged but rather, there should be a balance wherein we can have a healthy intrapersonal relationship as well as healthy interpersonal relationships.

The quality of your intrapersonal relationship determines the quality of your interpersonal relationship

When you improve on your intrapersonal relationship, your interpersonal relationships get even better and more fulfilling.

Here are some amazing ways to develop a healthy relationship with yourself

  1. Know yourself: knowing yourself is the foundation for building a healthy relationship with yourself. You may think you know yourself well enough but you still need to do a deeper study of yourself. You’ll notice that some things change as you age while some don’t. Also, know your strengths and weakness, know what to avoid and what to delve into, be sincere with yourself, for example, if you cannot handle harsh criticisms don’t go looking for it. Know what makes you happy and go for it!
  2. Practice Mindfulness meditation: man-breathingbeing mindful is simply learning to gain awareness of the present moment, your present thoughts and feelings. Most of time we are unaware of these bodily functions. If you were told to describe how you feel right now what will it be? Stressed?, sad?, uneasy?, relaxed?, happy?, angry?, loved?, unwanted? Or fulfilled?. Now let’s have a quick mindfulness practice, notice when you breathe in and out…. Then take the “in breath” slow……………..ly and the “out breath” slow………………ly also. Do this for about 2 minutes at different times today and every single day. That’s the beginning of being mindful! For more information about mindfulness, kindly visit mobilehealthconsult.org
  3. Be yourself: you are the only YOU in the entire galaxy! So enjoy being you. You may feel that your weaknesses far outweighs your strengths. Well, look inside you once again and search deep within you. If you are sincere with yourself well enough to know your weaknesses, then the fact that you can bring it to the level of your consciousness means it is 50% resolved!. Be yourself through your journey to become better every day!

Don’t let anyone or societal standards make you feel any less of yourself. Enjoy being you, enjoy your own company, communicate with yourself and have a bank of happy memories about yourself and your achievements. Remember, the better the quality of your intrapersonal relationship, the more fulfilling your interpersonal relationships will be.

Be Positive!

by Mobile Health Consult

positive-attitudes-quotes

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones,

you’ll start having positive results”

– Willie Nelson

After setting goals and making resolutions for the new year, it is so certain that challenges will come up 100% of the time to distract you from achieving your set goals and all of a sudden even the seemingly “easy” goals you’ve set begin to kind of look difficult then you start procrastinating… maybe tomorrow…, maybe next week…, maybe next month…and it goes on and on till it is never done.

That has to stop this year!

It’s time to wake up and make changes that you’ll be thankful for at the end of the year. First, we must establish who or what the determinant of the outcome of your life in this year is. No doubt, external factors do have a role to play in this but be informed that the major factor that determines your outcome or the accomplishment of your set goals is YOU! Yes YOU!

So it’s very important that you believe in the possibility of your goals becoming a reality. Let your belief form a firm foundation for everyday of this year. Then start working on them, never forget the goals, place them where you can see them every day and see yourself achieving them!

3 ways to be positive this year

Treat yourself better: When you set goals such as health and fitness goals, it is important that you do so for yourself and not because you want to please others or fit in. you have to be positive about yourself this year. Get more organized, eat healthier, exercise more, drink more water, sleep better, give yourself a treat occasionally, do something special for yourself, buy yourself a gift, see yourself in a better way, present yourself better, take better care of yourself, look better and be self-motivated. Let’s be positive about ourselves!

Treat others better: It can be really rewarding when we treat people better. There is this inner joy that comes with that. We certainly feel good when people treat us well, so why don’t we make more impact this year by treating others better? You’ll touch so many lives by this act and it will bring more opportunities your way. As an employee, resolve to treat your employer better. As an employer, resolve also to treat your employees better. Let’s be positive about others!

Go the extra mile: You have to leave your comfort zone this year. Enough of the mundanity. It’s time to change gears for the next level, a time to change old methods of doing things and embrace better ways instead. It is also time to take risks to see growth and productivity. Be adventurous this year and push yourself to do what you thought you could not do because, it is possible! Let’s be positive about our actions!

positive

It’s never too late to change your thought patterns about yourself, others and your actions. Add daily doses of positivity to these 3 aspects and watch yourself have positive results with a happier and healthier life.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,900 times in 2015. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 5 trips to carry that many people.

Just Before 2016!

by Mobile Health Consult

2016-new-year-ss-1920Seems just like yesterday when 2015 was a brand new year and people all around the world celebrated the cross over from the past year into the “New Year”. Well, we are at that point once again when virtually everyone earnestly anticipates the birth of another New Year! Of a truth, the year 2015 brought its share of highs and lows, laughter and tears, failures and success etc. This period should generally be a time to retreat, reflect over the year and make plans for the coming year. However, people sometimes get so caught up in the end of year rush and may easily forget to prepare for the forthcoming year.

At the beginning of every year, it is a common occurrence for people to make resolutions and set goals to be achieved within the year. Although these goals or resolutions may not necessarily hold so much importance for some as they could be mere rituals. For others, it may provide a sense of direction for the entire year.

woman-with-black-curly-hair-sitting-and-thinking

Did you make plans at the beginning of this year?

Were your plans mere rituals?

How much of your goals have you achieved so far?

At this point and time, it is very important to have a deep reflection on what your 2015 was like, recount your achievements for the year and the impact you made however little it may seem.

Let’s do this together!

  • Search for your earlier set goals/ resolutions for this year
  • Place a check mark on the goals you were able to achieve
  • Outline those goals that are yet to be achieved

716x358-5_Surprising_Tips to_Set_the_Best_Goals_for_Your_Health

How many checks do you have altogether?

And how many pending goals do you have left?

Kudos to you if you were able to achieve over 50% of your set goals for the year and if you achieved ALL your set goals, then you probably deserve a medal. However, if peradventure, you could not achieve so much of your goals, well no need to cry over spilled milk. It simply indicates that there is a need for re-strategizing. Failure to achieve our set goals for the year could be as a result of so many factors such as:

  • Procrastination
  • Fear
  • Discouragement
  • Lack of proper planning
  • Setting unrealistic goals

Remember, it all starts with YOU! Now that the above have been identified, the next line of action is simply;

  • Avoid procrastinating in 2016. Make your plans and set a time frame for it/them and ensure to reward your success at every level of achievement.
  • Face your fears by delving into action. The worst that can happen is that you will fail at it, but how about we look at the best that can happen, which is that you will be successful at it!
  • Be courageous in the New Year by tapping into more sources of encouragement such as having a role model and believing in yourself.
  • Ensure that you plan adequately for every set goal. It will also be of great help to have a plan B.
  • Make your goals as realistic and achievable as possible.

The Heart of Christmas

by Mobile Health Consult

christmas_nights-1920x1200“He who has no Christmas in his heart will never find Christmas under a tree” -Charlotte Carpenter

The 25th day of the month of December has been marked as a day in which Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Although the celebration has its origin from Christianity, it is a season that is generally celebrated by all. This is because it is usually celebrated at a season that also marks the end of the year. Christmas is not just about the weather or the many activities that accompanies it. What makes Christmas special is what we make of it.

“It’s Christmas in the HEART that puts Christmas in the AIR”- W.T Ellis

These days, the main purpose of Christmas has been ignored by so many. People get easily carried away by the outings, shopping, and other activities that come with the season and neglect what the season actually stands for.

What is the heart of Christmas?

It is the Heart of LOVE

Heart shaped christmas tree ball with chain of lights

The Christmas season is a time to show love to all those around you. You might say…

“Must I wait till Christmas to show love?” The answer is NO!

The deepest desire of every individual is to be loved and love is a virtue which every individual should carry around on a daily basis. In this Christmas season, love should be seen everywhere around you. Show love to everyone and everything around you to the point that even the blind will see the love that your presence radiates.

It is the Heart of SACRIFICEslide28

The heart of Christmas is the heart of sacrifice. It is the heart that looks out for the next person even when it is not convenient. As you celebrate this Christmas, endeavor to give to someone. You can give your time, money, gifts, show kindness or you can devise other creative ways to express love to others.

It is the Heart of GRATITUDE

Gratitude-Season-300x199

Christmas should be a time when we show gratitude to God for the things we have and everything we have achieved over the year. It is not a time to count losses or worry about what we don’t have. Not expressing gratitude this season would be out of place as there is a lot to be thankful for. If you can’t think of anything to be thankful for, then be grateful that you are alive.

Do not forget!

A grateful heart is a happy heart

This is the heart of Christmas!
